I may regret this later, telling you all about this amazing project I am working on, but to be honest; I am too damn excited to not give you a little sneak peek.
A long time ago, like three years, I was inspired by textiles at a local shop, Birch Fabrics. I would go in there and run my fingers through the bolts and shiver with excitement. It was an enthralling experience to choose fabric and then use that fabric to create things that people would use. To this day I am amazed at the simple transformation a flat piece of fabric can make just by cutting and stitching to my little hearts desire. Fast forward a few years and well; it's a competitive market out there and when you're creating things that aren't unique [enough] it's hard to brand yourself. Even three years ago I had this dream, but I didn't quite have the desire for it until about a year ago when my little bambino was born. It was then that I decided to take a step back and find out how I can brand myself and be unique with the creations I make.
Designing my own fabric line.
I was lucky enough to work at Birch Fabrics while I was pregnant with Oliver and it was there that my inspiration grew. I am so thankful for having the opportunity to work there; I learned so much about fabric and printing! And now I am able to take that inspiration and knowledge and build a brand for myself.
Over the past month I've been working on designs for my first line of fabric. I've been drawing in a lot more inspiration from my blog, from fashion, from what I find appealing and what I think would appeal to others and have come up with four designs so far, each in a girl and boy colorway. It's all still in the design works and once all designs are done, they will be sent off to print. But that's a bit away so today I am going to give you a sneak peak at one design in both colorways.

Once these go to print and are in my hands so many amazing things will be made. I am getting so excited you guys! Though it hasn't been my dream my entire life, for all of my [sewing] creative life it has been and I can't wait to see where this is going to take me.
What do you think of that design? Leave me a comment with some feedback!

So cool! I discovered about a month ago that it was possible to print my own fabric and I was immediately super excited. I haven't had time to do anything, though.
ReplyDeleteI really like the greens and purples in the bottom image. They're so fresh and springy!
Very cute, Ashley! So excited to see your dreams come to life. Can't wait to see more! :)
